THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Hey Guys,
Last week was one we'll never forget. Thanks to your support, TWLOHA finished 3rd in Chase Community Giving and we are $100,000 closer to launching IMAlive, an online crisis network that will bring hope and help to thousands of people.
Over the last few years, we've been able to talk about issues that millions live with but few talk about - we've also learned that the first step to getting help is the one that most people never take. Thanks to Chase Bank and Facebook, more people are talking today and we're $100k closer to launching a network that will save lives.
We want to start by acknowledging our partner in the IMAlive project: Thank you Reese Butler of Hopeline (1-800-SUICIDE) for bringing us into this revolutionary life-saving endeavor. Thanks also to Frank Warren and the passionate PostSecret community for their incredible support.
There's a whole list of folks we want to thank, but that can wait for now. Right now, we want to thank YOU. Thank you for voting last week, thanks for tweeting and retweeting, for updating your status and changing your profile pic. Thanks for encouraging your friends to vote. More than anything, we want to say thanks for caring. Thanks for caring about people and thanks for believing in the work and mission of TWLOHA. We've been saying since the beginning - nearly four years now - that we're all in this together. And we still feel that way today. That all of us are called to care for one another, to be generous and compassionate and to do our best to point our friends to hope and help.
Thank you for believing in us. And thank you for coming with us on this surprising journey.
TWLOHA would also like to thank the following organizations for their support last week:
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
The Self-Injury Foundation
The Trevor Project
InTheRooms
SocialVibe
Hurley
Volcom
Catalyst
Charity:Water
YourCause

Thanks to the following makers of music:
Amy Lee of Evanescence

Martin Johnson of Boys Like Girls
Jonathan Cook of Forever the Sickest Kids
Craig Owens
JD Perry of Valencia
Sing It Loud
Brandi Cyrus
Sam Hancock of Luminate
And certainly the poets...

We made a little video last Thursday night in Los Angeles. The whole thing came together in just a few hours and it was a ton of fun. Thank you to Jamie's long-time friend Justin Purser for capturing the magic, and for staying up til 5 in the morning to edit and upload. Thanks beyond words to Joaquin Phoenix, Miley Cyrus and Liv Tyler for helping us create something that has introduced TWLOHA to nearly 2 million people in just a few days. Joaquin "resurfaced," Miley kept us laughing and Liv Tyler may be the kindest person on the planet. Thanks also to the Press for getting so excited about the video (apparently, when Joaquin shaves, it's a very big deal).

Finally, a huge thanks to all of our friends and family members who wrote Facebook notes, updated statuses, and called and emailed everyone they knew. We are super thankful for our loved ones who support us (and tolerate our incessant pleas to vote!).
Here's to moving forward with IMAlive and to being there for people in moments of pain and loneliness. Thanks so much for your support and for being with us on this surprising journey.
Peace to you,
jamie and Team TWLOHA
PS: Congratulations to our friends at Invisible Children!! IC won $1 million for their important work in Uganda and we were happy to support them as the race for first came down to the wire. Beyond the Chase "contest" was (and is) the desire that both IC and TWLOHA could be partners and leaders in inviting young people to live generous, compassionate lives. It's not about picking a favorite or competing - it's about working together to save lives and meet needs on this planet that we all share.Posted in General by jamie tworkowski

Wow, Jamie, you're a good sport. Honestly, I'm a little sour about IC winning first. But like you said, it's about working together.
We're one step closer to IMAlive!

Well done to both TWLOHA and IC for the stellar work u guys do. And as Jamie says, it is one globe we live on. Jamie, i live in South Africa. The work you do does have a truely global impact. I have learned of u guys and what u do last year from a friend as i was suicidal and cutting. And no, im not a teen. Im a 30 year old woman. I suffer from bipolar disorder as well as borderline personality and anxiety disorder. So, just knowing that there are people on another continent, another timeline, another hemisphere who truely do care.. Wow! It's amazing! And then reaching out to find arms and hands reaching back out to you.. In the end.. Isn't that what life is all about? Sending love to you all!

I found your network through searching for Joaquin Phoenix :).
I am 100% supporter of TWLOHA. Jamie the team have done such wonderful work to support these people all these years. I believe that depression is an illness that more people need to pay attention to. Finally, I feel that I am not alone.

@ the person who commented before this
You can make it through this. Your life matters.
Rescue IS possible, and so is freedom.
I'm saying from my own story, I started cutting when I was 13 too. But my story speaks of hope. I made the choice to stop eight months ago, and with only one relapse since then (which I came through stronger for it).
You are loved. In ways you can't imagine and sometimes can't see. Redemption is real, If I can make it through this, so can you.
And if you ever (and/or anyone else) need to talk, just email me.

I'm losing control. I'm so scared. I've tried to find help and nobody can help me. It's too late. I'm.....
22 | Left by em | Feb. 2, 2010 at 9:12pm
Dearest Em,
It's never to0 late. There is always hope. I hope you're still with us, and I hope you're reading this message. There are people that care about you, I don't know you and even I care about you. If you need to talk, I suggest calling a suicide hotline such as 800-273-TALK. You CAN get through this.
Hope is real,
Stephanie

@ Em
We share a name. Or at least a nickname. *hugs* listen to me, you are going to move through this. Your story is important and your life matters. I care about you just like stephanie. And I don't even know you.
There is always hope. Always.
@Chelsea
That's hard question. There really Is only so much a person CAN do. Remember at least, that it's not your fault... And that your life is important just as hers was.
27 | Left by Em | Feb. 4, 2010 at 9:12pm
I've lost control. I'm falling down hard, just when I thought I made it through the worst. I hate this and I hate myself and I don't know how much more I can take. I've fought so hard to stay alive and I was doing so well. Now I'm scared. it's worse than ever and I have no place to go for help.
28 | Left by Whitney | Feb. 5, 2010 at 5:09pm
Whitney, you can get through this.
Hope is real. I know it's tough to be going good then fall again. But listen, there are people who care about you. I've never even met you and your life is important to me.
Why do we fall down? So we can remember what rock bottom feels like, but also so we can learn to keep on getting back up. To keep on moving forward.
Everyday is a new begining. God is still in the business of redemption.
Look at the stars Whitney, remeber that they mean hope.
If you need someone to talk to I'm here.

What if there are people who don't want to get help, who can't find love in others and who can't embrace others' love?
30 | Left by Ian | Feb. 5, 2010 at 10:00pm
id tell those ppl Ian to first try the very best to love themselves. find the good inside of u and u can see the good inside of others. love is strong and self worth is learned..sometimes very slowly. id tell those ppl ian that as long as it takes, hanging in there is worth every second because they will watch themselves get stronger everyday as soon as they take that first step and to realize that recieving love from others first starts with recognizing all the positive energy we naturally harbor inside. just being on this website is more than 1 step...it means everything.
