This blog isn't really about Coldplay.
They are on the cover of pretty much every music magazine in the world at the moment, so i think they're doing okay whether we talk about them or not. This is more about our map. What i mean is, i think that part of the point of this blog is to share things that feel true - things that remind us how we ended up here and where we're trying to go and why and how, things that feel relevant to our journey - our journey as TWLOHA and our journey as you and me. i like the idea of this being a place where you can find things that are encouraging and honest and inspiring and hopeful. i like the idea of this being a place where you can find things that remind you to keep going, or that it's okay to be honest, or that you're not alone...
With that in mind, i felt something in reading these words and so i wanted to share them with you:
From RollingStone.com:
Coldplay's new album is called Viva la Vida. Singer Chris Martin chose this title after seeing the phrase, which means "long live life," on a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who endured polio, a broken spine, and chronic pain for decades. "She went through a lot of shit, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida,'" says Martin. "I just loved the boldness of it."
From the new issue of SPIN:
"What i really love about that painting, and her in general, is that her colors were always so bright and vibrant and alive, and yet if you look closely, she's really aware of all the darkness." Martin, whose mother is a devout Christian, and who grew up in a church that was preoccupied with heaven and hell, cannot abide dualisms, "all this talk about happiness and sadness and darkness and light. Both things always exist concurrently. I am a happy guy, but I am also a very sad guy. It just happens to be at the same time."
Heavy and Light...
Peace to you.

PS: That SPIN quote reminds me of this, from the start of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky:
"I just need to know that someone out there listens and understands and doesn't try to sleep with people even if they could have. I need to know that these people exist.
I think you of all people would understand because I think you of all people are alive and appreciate what that means. At least I hope you do because other people look to you for strength and friendship and it's that simple. At least that's what I've heard.
So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be."Posted in General by Chris Youngblood
